چکیده
Abstract We consider a bilevel continuous knapsack problem where the leader controls capacity of knapsack, while follower chooses feasible packing maximizing his own profit. The leader’s aim is to optimize linear objective function in and follower’s solution, but with respect different item values. address stochastic version this profits are uncertain from perspective, only probability distribution known. Assuming that aims at optimizing expected value her function, we first observe tractable as long possible scenarios given explicitly part input, which also allows deal general distributions using sample average approximation. For case independently uniformly distributed values, show #P-hard general, same true even for evaluating function. Nevertheless, present pseudo-polynomial time algorithms case, running total size items. Based on this, derive an additive approximation scheme runs time.

The bilevel knapsack problem with stochastic right-hand sides
We introduce the bilevel knapsack problem with stochastic right-hand sides, and provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of an optimal solution. When the leader’s decisions can take only integer values, we present an equivalent two-stage stochastic programming reformulation with binary recourse. We develop a branch-and-cut algorithm for solving this reformulation, and a bra...
متن کاملOn a Stochastic Bilevel Programming Problem with Knapsack Constraints
In this paper we propose a mixed integer bilevel problem having a probabilistic knapsack constraint in the first level. The problem formulation is mainly motivated by practical pricing and service provision problems as it can be interpreted as a model for the interaction between a service provider and clients. We assume the probability space to be discrete which allows us to reformulate the pro...
متن کاملA Polynomial Algorithm for a Continuous Bilevel Knapsack Problem
In this note, we analyze a bilevel interdiction problem, where the follower’s program is a parametrized continuous knapsack. Based on the structure of the problem and an inverse optimization strategy, we propose for its solution an algorithm with worst-case complexity O(n). Keywords— Bilevel programming, Continuous knapsack problem, Polynomial time. 1 Model Recently, a number of papers have bee...
متن کاملKnapsack Problem with Uncertain Weights and Values
In this paper, the knapsack problem under uncertain environment is investigated, in which the weights and the values are assumed to be uncertain variables. With different criteria, three mathematical models are constructed for the problem, i.e., expected value model, chance-constrained programming model and uncertain measure model. Taking advantage of uncertainty theory, the first two models ca...
متن کاملThe Adaptive Knapsack Problem with Stochastic Rewards
Given a set of items with associated deterministic weights and random rewards, the Adaptive Stochastic Knapsack Problem (Adaptive SKP) maximizes the probability of reaching a predetermined target reward level when items are inserted sequentially into a capacitated knapsack before the reward of each item is realized. This model arises in resource allocation problems which permit or require seque...
